The Norwex EnviroCloth has long been a customer favorite, and by far, the most popular Norwex product. However, one complaint of the EnviroCloth is that after using them for awhile, they can start to smell.

Since originally writing this post, Norwex has developed a new product to address this problem – the Microfiber Laundry Booster and it works great.
The Laundry Booster is now my primary recommendation for smelly Norwex cloths. It’s the fastest and best thing I’ve found.
If you prefer, the steps listed below will still help with this problem.
Why Do Some EnviroCloths Start To Smell?
What happens is that after several weeks and months of cleaning, there can be a build up on the fibers which starts “clogging” the microfiber.
This seems to be much more common in places with hard water that’s higher in mineral content.
Also, if the Norwex microfiber is cleaned using traditional soaps, the microfiber pores become clogged, which can also cause an odor.
Only use environmentally friendly soaps without fillers when you are laundering to prevent the microfiber pores from being clogged and causing odor.
What To Do If Your Norwex EnviroCloth Smells
If your Norwex EnviroCloth starts to smell, here are some steps you can take:
- Wash the EnviroCloth in hot water. Often times, this will take care of the smell.
- Soak the EnviroCloth overnight in Norwex Ultra POWER Plus™ laundry detergent.
- Boil the EnviroCloth for 10 minutes.
Washing The EnviroCloth In Hot Water
Often times, this step will take care of the smell. In addition to washing it with just hot water, you could also use a little dishwashing liquid under warm running water.
Soaking The EnviroCloth Overnight
You can fill up a sink or bucket with hot water and add Norwex Laundry Detergent or another environmentally friendly detergent without fillers and bleach.
Then, just let the EnviroCloth soak overnight, and wash them out with hot water the next morning using hot water.
Fair warning: your sink may look very dirty. It’s a good example of just how well the EnviroCloth works with picking up and trapping all of the dirt and grime.
Boiling The EnviroCloth
This is for a really “deep clean.” Boiling the Norwex microfiber for 10 minutes allows the fibers to swell, and then release the debris that has been trapped inside.
Bonus Tip: This is also the best way to remove stubborn stains from your EnviroCloth.
